Lanvin’s My Sin is one of those perfumes whose name genuinely suits what is inside the bottle. Created by the elusive perfumer Madame Zed, it begins with the immaculate polish of aldehydes and citrus before gradually revealing something much more seductive underneath. Jasmine, ylang-ylang, narcissus and rose grow richer as the fragrance develops, while civet, musk, woods and balsamic resins bring warmth and an unmistakably intimate edge. Vintage reviews repeatedly describe that contrast as the fascination of My Sin: crisp and almost proper at first, then increasingly floral, dark and animalic. Bois de Jasmin characterises its progression from chilly aldehydic elegance into a languorous floral heart and animalic base, while contemporary perfume-history sources note that My Sin became one of Lanvin’s earliest major fragrance successes.
